Shag Nation

Shag Nation is a documentary I worked on and edited a couple years ago. It has done a great run through the festival circuit, and in honor of this weeks spring SOS ( society of stranders) events, the film is being released for free for the rest of this week. Its a fun doc so check it out if you have some time! Here is a link to the trailer and a summary of the film from director Brittany Brothers...

"A cold beer on a warm night with a hot date and no plans for tomorrow." This is the soul of the Carolina Shag. Born out of nightclubs on the beaches of Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Shag was danced by lifeguards, 'stranders', and beach bums alike on those lazy summer nights in the 1930's, '40's, and '50's. The Shag is similar to the patterned, mirrored steps between two partners of the Jitterbug and West Coast Swing, but dissimilar in that it is danced from the waist down, and the moves are smooth, graceful, and sensual. Over time, its popularity has expanded up and down the southeast coast as well as sporadically across the country. Deep in the heart of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., however, you'll find those die-hards that eat, sleep, live, and breathe the Shag. Shaggers of all ages come from all walks of life and dance for many different reasons, but one thing is certain: once you're a shagger, you're a shagger for life, and that bond with your comrades is eternal. Shag breathes new life ...

Santa Fe Sunrise

by williams424@gmail.com in ,

We arrived in Santa Fe New Mexico at night, but could sense from the vast amount of stars visible that it would be a spectacular sunrise. On a recent cross county road trip we ended up staying with our friend lawrence in a cozy house on top of this hill.  I awoke just a little after the first sign of light, and set my GoPro camera up on top of a shed in time-lapse mode facing out towards the view. Our location behind some hills didn't allow for shooting the actual sun, but seeing the light slowly illuminate the mountains and the landscape below was really awesome.

Everyday Project Update

by williams424@gmail.com in

Here's an update on my 1 second everyday project I've been working on coming up on just about 4 months.

I've finally fell into a routine of thinking throughout the day what 1 second moment should be captured to go into my timeline of a year. Although so simple, at the beginning it was a bit of a chore trying to make sure I pressed record before the stroke of midnight, but now its almost second nature.

Part of the ease of making this project possible was the ability to use my iPhone 5 or Canon PowerShot S100 which usually lives in my pocket, I rarely will ever miss a moment I want to catch. I'll probably update once more towards the very end when the project is done and a whole year has been documented. I can't believe its almost a third over from when I began, whoa.
