Our first time up north to Lake Tahoe we camped, fished, swam, rafted, and thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. To break up the drive from LA we made our first stop at Silver Lake Campground in June Lake. We arrived late at night and set up to the quite campground and sounds of running water (very exciting.) We were also treated to crystal clear skies with views of the Milky Way and thoroughly enjoyed much cooler temperatures from where we came from. It was a great nights sleep and we woke up awed by the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains with a tall waterfall which provided the perfect sounds overnight. By far one of the best car camping spots we've been to, with most sites steps away from the lake and streams where people fished for rainbow trout. Fishing was tough due to the tail end of summer season, but fun nonetheless.
Making our way to South Lake Tahoe we camped a D L Bliss Campground nestled below the trees and had a nice meal ending with some tasty smores.
Hiking the Rubicon Trail the next morning a short walk from camp, we were thrilled to find a side trail leading to some rocks where we could jump into the lake to cool off. We were super impressed with the clarity and blue color of the lake, making the tap water cleaner than most bottled water (we couldn't stop chugging it). A mellow rafting trip up the Truckee River was a highlight as well. We made one big loop around Lake Tahoe and got a good lay of the land. It truly is one of the most beautifully scenic places.
On the way back home we made one more camp stop at Oh Ridge Campground another spot in June Lake, and got to do a little more fishing on Gull Lake the next morning. It was an awesome trip and can't wait to make it back around fall and winter!
